Dry Creek Wine and Cigar Herf

June 21, 1997

Our day began mid-morning on a perfect summer day in the heart of Sonoma County, California. We all met our fellow herfers at the lovely Fountain Grove Inn in Santa Rosa. Then we stepped into Mig's chauffeured white stretch limousine which whisked us away to the Armida Winery for our first winery tour of the day. Between glasses of fine vino, we smoked and exchanged cigars amongst ourselves. Of course this was very taxing work, and we were forced to eat a casual lunch and drink a few more glasses of wine to regain our strength. Penny Coster had already proven herself a consumate crawl organizer with us!

Group SepiaAs the sun climbed high, we proceeded to the Michael Schumberger Winery where Penny pulled a few strings to get us a private "appointment only" tasting and tour. The question of "white vs. red with cigars" became a hotly debated topic, and working as a team we aptly decided - both please! Also it was here that Mig showed off what a Studmuffin Extraordinaire he is by not only wooing one woman, but two. Many of us were worried his aging ticker might give way during the "tell Santa what you want" moments, as captured thanks to the ASC Paparazzi - Mark and Frank. From here we traveled to the Semi Winery. Glass raised in toast after toast as we sipped, well in Rick's case - gulped, more of California's finest spirit. Somehow we forgot to take any pictures here, truth is we had consumed so much wine we couldn't get the lens caps off.

Thankfully Egg and Mike had their wits about them, (first time for everything huh?), and were able to lead us back to the limo. The driver drove us directly to the beautiful Tom Jordan Winery where our hostess, Penny, works as enologist - the official wine taster and tester. What a gig huh?!?! The tour was incredible, and our time in the winery's private library sharing more smokes and wine were simply incredible. It was here that the infamous "Moon over Jordan" was spotted and captured via a long photo shot. This picture has been digitally enhanced by the crack staff of CNX for the best possible resolution and clarity. Some experts contend that the siting and the resulting photo are a hoax with them comparing it to authencity of "Bigfoot", "Nessie", and "little green men" pictures that appear on supermarket tabloids. You be the judge. Regardless, this was the highlight stop of the tour!

Barely able to stand, we sucked on our cigars for nourishment as we returned to the Fountain Grove Inn to dine in their wonderful restaurant, Equus. The meal was splendid, and yes, we had just a little more wine. And guess what we enjoyed for dessert...cigars!!!

Simply a fantastic day with the very best of ASC friends...
