2nd Habanos International Festival

Our good friend Rafael Bernardo is a consummate cigar connoisseur. Living in Madrid, Spain, affords him the luxury of enjoying Havanas full time and to travel to Cuba legally for leisure. However, this is not what qualifies him as an exemplary aficionado, but rather it is his deep love and passion for all things cigars. He is a joy to correspond with and expert in his own right. I always look forward to reading about his recent adventures and have included his most recent trip report of the 2nd Festival del Habanos event. Motown Smokin' Xmasfest Dec. 12, 1998	Fifteen ASCers join forces to take the Big Rock Chop and Brew House by storm! We came together to celebrate our love of cigars and to share our passion with our fellow comrades while enjoying the best food and drink. It was a fantastic herf and a great way to celebrate the holiday season!

Jazz for Chaz Dec. 4, 1998	Red hot smokes and cool jazz filled this splendid evening in remembrance of our recently departed friend Chaz Lanski. ASCers from far and wide came together to celebrate his life and to help raise funds guaranteeing his surviving baby son the opportunity to attend college. Compassion and generosity were the hallmarks of this touching evening.

Jersey Shore Cigar Crawl '98 (The Roar at the Shore!) May 15-17, 1998	The Jersey Shore Cigar Crawl '98, aptly nicknamed the "Roar at the Shore" by alumni of the first annual "JSCC", was held May 13-17, 1998. Smoke Over Miami Dinner July 18, 1997	Our good friend Rip Kemp began to plan for an intimate cigar dinner at his favorite Cuban restaurant Casa Albertos. He wanted to share a few smokes over classic Havana fare with his friends. As it turns out, Rip has a lot of friends and he ended up playing host to over 30 ASCers nationwide. It was a grand evening of cigars, food and friends.

Cigar Aficionado First Annual Hall of Fame Dinner May 21, 1997	Six of the cigar industry's finest were honored in style for their lifetime contribution to tobacco, cigars, and the business in a lavish black tie dinner at the Grand Hyatt in Manhattan. CA's Marvin Shanken played host to nearly 600 attendees dressed to the nines as they celebrated the success of those being honored and the revival of the cigar.

Dry Creek Wine and Cigar Herf June 21, 1997	What do you get when you mix a perfect sunny day, a lot of 'vino, cigars galore, and good friends? Texas Herf On The Lake (THOTL) April 26, 1997	This Lone Star State mega-Herfest held in Austin showed a hundred plus ASCers what Texas hospitality is all about. Good old fashion homestyle barbecue, unlimited quantities of brew on tap, and more cigars than you could clip. Lifelong friendships and wonderful memories were made that day deep in the heart of Hill Country.
