Jersey Shore Cigar Crawl '98

The Roar at the Shore!

Friday, May 15 - Sunday May 17

The Jersey Shore Cigar Crawl week--1998, aptly nicknamed the "Roar at the Shore" by alumni of the first annual "JSCC", was held May 13-17, 1998. A full five days of events were planned, from a "field trip" to New York City "hot spots" such as Club Macanudo, Angelo and Maxie's and the famed Nat Sherman's, to a day at the casinos of Atlantic City. Guests came from as far afield as California (yes, indeed, ASC's own Migster was in residence!), Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, and even (we suspect) other planets! (Just check out Scott Schoenstadt's hat and tell me that it's not concealing antenna or long furry ears or some other alien trait!)

The traditional pre-crawl dinner was held at the Lincroft Inn this year, and aside from a moment of ugliness when the house ran out of decent port, the repast was fine. This year, we followed the pre-crawl dinner with a visit to "Delilah's Fine Family Fun and Entertainment Emporium," where John "The Lap Dance" King took the "Rookie Crawler of the Year" award!

The crawl itself featured a surprise "unlisted" stop, the 1st annual JSCC-THOTL (Jersey Shore Cigar Crawl-Herf on the Lawn).

Havanas Cigar Emporium in Matawan hosted the crawlers' first stop with a wonderful hot and cold lunch buffet, wide screen Dolby THX entertainment, and a generous supply of rare cigars.

Cigars Plus in Brick imported guest host actor Frank Vincent to entertain us, and offered a nice selection of Padron Anniversarios, accompanied by italian pastries and a selection of cordials. A surprise drawing was held by Frank, the proprietor of Cigars Plus, and each crawler won a prize, ranging from cigar ties to humidors!

Next, the crawl motivated to Court Liquors, where Mike and Chuck treated the gang to a tasting of 5 single malt scotches, and some 55 year old port! And if that wasn't enough, Chuck offered pre-castro Cuban cigars to accompany the libations!

Finally, off to The Red Pipe in Red Bank, for a wide selection of Bahia Gold maduros and a port and small batch bourbon tasting.

All of this was followed up by a feast fit for a king at the Sea Gull restaurant's private dining room that featured 4 separate cigar tastings, and the annual distribution of the "pile 'o prizes!" This year, each and every crawler left with a humidor of their very own.

To cap the week off, Adam the Original hosted the traditional "Post-Crawl Crash and Burn BBQ" at the Casa del Goldstone. A great time was had by all -- See for yourself!!!
