The Little Havana Cigar Tour 2 (LHCT2) made history in the heart of Miami's Little Havana over the weekend of January 17th as the ultimate cigar crawl to date. Nearly 40 ASCers from Nationwide enjoyed a Private Insider Tour of the US's finest cigar factories and families. We were personally greeted by the owners and master cigar makers of Padrons Cigars, Nick's Cigar Company, Moore and Bode Cigars, and El Credito. Each afforded us an intimate tour of their Little Havana operations and shared with us their history, their views, and their passion for cigars. The anticipation for the event was so great that many of the ASCers arrived in Miami a day or two early. There were so many Herfers in town ahead of schedule, that they organized a cigar dinner at the Capitol Grille for Thursday evening and a Friday lunch rendezvous at a Miami tradition, Joe's Stone Crab, before the LHCT2 actually began. Our first "official" event was to visit Miami's largest and most renowned cigar store: Mike's Cigars. We were personally welcomed by Oded and given a sneak peek at their distribution warehouse. Later that evening we enjoyed each others company at Casa Albertos, one of Miami's best Cuban restaurants. They make the tastiest Churassco in all of Miami - bar none. It was a casual meal of with lifelong friends and many laughs. We capped the evening off a perfect visit to "Hsiung's Cigar Bar and Emporium". Their staff made us feel comfortable and appreciated as we enjoyed our final cigars of the evening in the lap of luxury. Saturday morning arrived all too early for most of us as we boarded the Torcedor Trolley to begin our day long journey through Little Havana. The LHCT2 included stops at: Padron Cigars - We enjoyed our first smoke of the day with the Padron family as they shared with us the tale of Padron Cigars, their father, and what they hope the future will bring. They were exceptionally gracious hosts that offer us a huge treat of Cuban canapés and Cuban coffee. Nick's Cigars - Nick Perdomo volunteered his factory as "ground zero" for an amazing "first of its kind" cigar experience. Every ASCer was given a chavetta, a rolling bench, and tobacco and allowed to roll their own cigar! Nick's factory rollers assisted each of us as we tried our best to roll the perfect vitola. Of course most of us failed miserably, but it was a fantastic time! La Carettas - An unbelievable feast of Cuban dishes in one of Little Havana's most popular dives! The place is tacky, nobody speaks a lick of English, and the food is el' perfecto. Moore & Bode - Sharon Moore makes some of the finest cigars in the world, and is 100% different than any other cigar maker I have ever met. She opened up her small boutique factory to us, and shared some of her cigar making secrets and intriguing insights with us. El Credito - The "holy grail" of the Little Havana cigar industry. This place looks like it is straight from Havana. The gallery smells dank with tobacco and sweat... it is nothing short of a cigar smokers dream! We were personally welcomed into this infamous factory by Ernesto himself . The LHCT2 officially concluded with the "El Grande Habana Feast" at the Alcazar. This was an amazing cigar dinner where the cigars were intentionally far better than the meal for a change. It was the great ending to an amazing day of cigars, factories, and friends. However it was not the conclusion of the festivities - the next day we were all welcomed at Casa del Stone for a relaxing afternoon of bbq, beer, and yet more cigars. Sitting poolside as we all chatted and smoked with our friends was the perfect ending to a perfect week. In the end, this event spanned nearly four days and generated hundreds of photos memorializing our amazing cigar experience. We have selected the very best photos and stories in an attempt to share with you our incredible memories of the Little Havana Cigar Tour 2. |
