Smoking SakaI have smoked a tremendous number of different cigars over the years as part of my daily routine. Many are new cigars that others wish for me to sample and assess, and honestly most are ho-hum smokes. Every once in awhile though, I come across a cigar that I find to be real joy to smoke and I add it my rotation along with my old time favorites. Below are three cigars that I consider worthwhile - some are new, while others are time tested veterans. I can not promise you will like them all, but I regard each as fine cigar well worth your sampling. I offer them as smokable suggestions.

Whenever I make a mental short list of new cigar manufacturers that roll great smokes I always think of Tony Borhani and his Costa Rican Tabacalera Tambor factory. Not only has he created unique well made cigars with their own flavor and character in a boom market of substandard copy-cats, but his cigars continue to improve in both quality and taste each year. The new Bahia Maduro Corona Gigantes is a stellar example of this fact. This is a large expertly rolled parejo with a dark oily wrapper that is sure to satisfy any maduro lover. The burn is dead on even producing a solid snow white ash that looks camera perfect. But the real deal is in the flavor - an earthy rich taste with a slight sweetness. This medium body cigar is super smooth from beginning to end making it a real joy to smoke. This double corona is well worth sampling in my opinion.

AF Don Carlos No. 4
AF Don Carlos No. 4

Recently the Don Carlos line was expanded by the addition of four new sizes including this petite belicoso. At first glance you might dismiss this diminutive figurado as a lightweight cigar, but I assure you that would be a mistake. Not only does it live up to the renowned high standard of quality exhibited in the larger Don Carlos cigars, it also delivers in the flavor department like the big boys. This smoke is a sublime blend of cedar and sweet spice with incredible body. The narrower ring gauge seems to concentrate the intensity of the flavor delivering a long spicy finish that is certain to leave you sated. If you are looking for a short smoke that doesn't shortchange you on taste and satisfaction the Don Carlos No. 4 is a perfect selection.

Haban Partagas Presidente
Habana Partagas Presidente

It is impossible to not think of warm balmy nights, beautiful senoritas, and tumblers of Havana Club rum when smoking the Habana Partagas Presidente. This box pressed perfecto exemplifies my personal dream of Cuba - it is full of life and rich with unbridled flavor. This is a passionate cigar with heavy body that tastes of soil, leather, and espresso. It possesses a peppery finish that begs to be paired with a stout libation of equal character. There is no doubt that the Presidente is an all Habana puro from your first to your last puff. This vitlola is one of Cuba's most difficult cigars to find worldwide, but I assure you it is well worth the search.
